Plymouth tourist guide - hotels and services

Plymouth is a wonderful coastal town with a fascinating past. Most travellers come to Plymouth due to its pleasant seaside position. The marinas and port are always filled with boats and the town attracts tourists all year round. As a small coastal town Plymouth boasts plenty of pleasant attractions for visitors. There are several historical sites scattered throughout the town as well as parks, café's, museums and restaurants. There is also a pulsating nightlife scene with several busy night spots available in the night-time.

If you are fascinated by maritime wonders, walk over to the area's marinas to get a view of the naval artefacts and British Navy ships. A pleasant place to bring the entire family is the Plymouth Pavilion. It provides an ice rink, café's, bars and sports facilities.

For history buffs there are plenty options. The Plymouth Museum and Art Gallery, also known as the Drake Circus, is a fun filled family day out. Buckland Abbey is also a must-see. Once Sir Francis Drake lived here and at present day it is a popular visitor centre. Barbican Glass Works fortunately survived German bomb attacks it experienced during World War II.

There are many places to go in the evenings in Plymouth. These include the cinema, theatre, live music venues, pubs, bars and clubs.

Plymouth hotels

The city has a surprisingly good selection of hotels, as it caters to an influx of local visitors in the summer who flock to Southwest England and the popular Cornish coast. There is a range of hotels to suit all budgets with most choices in the three star range, along with B&Bs scattered about the city centre. A few luxury or private options are located out in the countryside, which is very pretty. Booking in advance over long weekends and the summer holidays is essential.
