Transport To and From Swansea

Swansea Port provides an excellent transport infrastructure, with easy access to the M4 motorway and direct access to the United Kingdom's railway network.

Bus and shuttles from Swansea

Pullman Coaches and First Cymru operate the majority of the local bus services. A frequent First Cymru bus service follows a route between the centre of Swansea and the idyllic seaside resort of Mumbles. Buses depart from the Quadrant Bus Station, situated on the other side of the Tourist Information Centre, and they stop at several points in Swansea Bay. Information regarding local bus services is available by calling: +44 870 608 2 608.

Car hire and road travel from Swansea

Swansea is well-connected by several principal motorways. The centre of the city lies just three miles (five kilometres) from Junction 42 of the M4 motorway. The city of Swansea can easily be accessed from Cardiff, which is only 38 miles (61kms) west of Swansea. The M4 motorway provides links to the M5, M32, M48, M49, and the M50 motorways.

For a break from the city, renting a private car and exploring the Gower Peninsula is a very rewarding option. As well as enjoying the coves, gorgeous beaches and coastal walks of the peninsular, there are plenty of buildings of historical interest to visit including several impressive medieval churches.

The city of Swansea represents several well-known and reputed car rental firms, so you always have the option to hire a car once you arrive in Swansea. However, it is best to book a private hire vehicle in advance online, where there is one reliable service providing the most lucrative deals from various firms including Hertz, Budget, National and Alamo.

Rail from Swansea Port

Once you arrive in the city of Swansea, the railway station is positioned in the city centre's heart, just a 15-minute walk to Swansea Bay's five-mile sweep; a 15-minute ride to the picturesque Mumbles seaside resort; and a 25-minute drive to the heart of the stunning Gower Peninsula. Outside the railway station, you'll find a bus stop, from where buses can transport you to the Quadrant Bus Terminal to link up with bus services for the entire Swansea Bay area.

Parking at Swansea Port

There are limited car parking spaces available at the port for both short-duration and long-duration car parking. Physically handicapped drivers will find a limited number of dedicated parking spaces available.

Taxis from Swansea Port

Taxi services are available outside the terminal building, where drivers wait for incoming ferry passengers. A&M private hire works mainly in and around the Pontardawe, Neath and Swansea areas, and they have a range of vehicles including London-style cabs that are able to carry one to seven passengers.
