Port of Gdynia Information
The Port of Gdynia is the youngest Polish port in the Baltic Sea Region.
The current ferry service is run by Scandinavia's leading ferry company - Stena Line on the ferry crossing to and from Gdynia and Karlskrona ferry port. The crossing takes 12 hours.
The decision to build a major seaport at the Gdynia village was made by the Polish government in winter 1920, because of the hostile attitude of the Danzig (Gdansk) authorities and the seaport workers towards Allied military supplies to Poland during the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1920).
Construction of the seaport was started in 1921. Currently Gdynia has over 270.000 residents and it is the 14th largest city in Poland. The city's economy is closely tied to its maritime links and over 40 per cent of its residents are employed in the maritime industry and port related business. Served by the Stena Britannica, and the Stena Traveller.
