Transport to and from Fishguard

Trains and buses connect Fishguard with numerous localities across the rest of Great Britain, while a good network of roads allows motorists to drive conveniently to their destination. Crossings by ferry are available to Rosslare in the southeast of Ireland, with four daily journeys available.

Bus and shuttles from Fishguard

Local buses follow routes between the town of Fishguard and other South Wales localities. Bus 410 leaves every half-hour daily for stops between the ferry port and the town of Fishguard.

Car hire and road travel from Fishguard

When approaching the port from the north by car, take the A487 from Cardigan. If you are travelling from the south, drive from Haverford west along the A40. Fishguard is positioned at the A40 and A487 junction. From this junction, follow the signs to the ferry port, which is situated just a mile northwest of the town's centre.

There are limited car rental companies represented in town. Some of them are located just a few miles from the ferry port. However, the best way to secure your hire car is to book a car rental in advance online, where there's one reliable service offering the most attractive car hire deals. Companies include Budget, Hertz, Alamo and Europcar.

Fishguard and its surroundings are ideal for a pleasant daytrip. For a quiet picnic, visit the enchanting Penlan-Uchaf Farm Gardens, only a short distance from Fishguard. Alternatively, practice your swing at the Priskilly Forest Golf Club or drive to Maesgwynne Riding Stables for an adventure on horseback.

A car is without a doubt the best way to explore the region surrounding Fishguard and Pembrokeshire. The area boasts plenty of worthwhile attractions which are all easily reached by car.

Rail from Fishguard port

Direct Rail operates train services from Fishguard's station. You will find the railway station positioned next to the Stena Line passenger terminal. Trains follow routes to a number of Welsh towns, some of which offer onward travels to principal British cities. Trains out of Paddington station in London are scheduled to arrive in co-ordination with ferry crossing times and the journey is approximately six hours.

Parking at Fishguard port

Both short-stay and long-stay parking facilities can be found at the Port of Fishguard. The facility provides an excellent option for walk-on passengers who do not wish to bring their cars with them on the crossing.

Taxis from Fishguard port

Usually taxis are waiting at the port for arriving passenger ferries. They offer their services while queuing up outside the terminal's exit. Inside the terminal, an information board is available providing phone numbers of local taxi companies. Travelling by taxi is a fast and comfortable way to reach your local destination.
