It is located on the waterfront, right in the heart of the city. The port's facilities include a café and a convenience store, while many shops are available in the nearby city of Douglas, which is easily accessible directly from the waterfront. The Terrazza Café in the Departure Lounge of the Sea Terminal is open year-round. The Port of Douglas has experienced changes with the construction of a second link span. This elevated passenger walkway was built on reclaimed land during the 1990s to provide up-to-date facilities for the new design of conventional and fast roll on, roll off ferries that now operate to the island. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company runs ferry services to the island from Heysham, Liverpool, Dublin and Belfast. Ferries on these routes include conventional ferries year-round, complemented by Fastcraft services during the summer months.
Crossings to Heysham take 2 hours onboard Fastcraft services, and 3 hours, 30 minutes on conventional vessels. Liverpool to Isle of Man is a 2-hour, 30-minute journey on a Fastcraft vessel, and 4 hours on a regular ferry. The journey to Dublin takes 2 hours, 45 minutes by Fastcraft, and 4 hours, 45 minutes by normal ferry; while Belfast is also 2 hours, 45 minutes by Fastcraft. The ferries are equipped for those with physical disabilities, though passengers should inform the ferry company of any special requirements at the time of reservation. The Isle of Man measures just 33 miles by 13 miles, but within these shores, there is a wealth of discoveries to be made. It is a very different island from Britain, with its own legal system and the world's oldest continuous parliament - Tynwald.
