Scrabster tourist guide - hotels and services

Scrabster does not offer much from a travellers' point of view and it is most known as the ferry port that connects the Outer Orkney. However, the nearby town of Thurso is a charming and pleasant town. The most northerly town in Scotland features a fair amount of history and excellent views of the ocean.

The major attractions in and around Thurso include Lady Janet's seat, in East Thurso, the ancient Thurso Castle and to the souht of Thurso the popular Mill Theatre. Thurso boasts a sufficient tourism infrastructure, with a camping site, shops, hotels, several traditional pubs and a tourist information centre in the centre of town. Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, is situated about 100 miles to the south, and is the nearest city to Thurso - offering plenty of things to do and see.

Thurso is a pleasant locality to stay in for a couple of days, with easy access to the most northern point in Great Britain mainland, John O'Groats. Many travellers also visit Thurso as a place of departure for driving the north and northwest panaromic coasts via the towns of Ullapool and Durness. Nowadays surfing is a big attraction in Thurso and championship games are often held here.

Hotels in Scrabster

Scrabster is just a tiny port village and was constructed as an extension to the town of Thurso, which is a popular coastal town. It is an ideal spot to loiter for a couple of days before travelling on to the Orkney Isles or when heading to Inverness.

There are a number of fine hotels here, as well as economic priced bed-and-breakfasts, guesthouses, inns and hostels. All these accommodation establishments are well known for their great hospitality.
