DFDS Seaways belongs to the DFDS Group of Companies, one of the biggest in the country of Denmark. The company's original name was Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab, from where the letters DFDS come from. The shipping company was founded in 1866.

In 2005, the Danish ferry operator transported 1.6 million people and about 216,000 cars on their fleet of six highly advanced, well-equipped and modern passenger vessels.
