The sailing time between Belfast and Liverpool is approximately 10 hours. Liverpool's large port is one of Britain's chief ports and covers the River Mersey's two banks - at Birkenhead and Liverpool. The port handles more than 30 million tonnes of cargo annually, including 35 per cent of the total amount of freight moving between the UK and Ireland.

Stena Line is the sole operator providing crossings to Stranraer in Scotland from Belfast port. The company offers eight sailings daily with a crossing time of 1 hour, 45 minutes. Stranraer is situated just across the border from England, and Glasgow can be reached by car within two hours. The port of Stranraer provides Scotland's most efficient gateway to Ireland. Stena Line operates the port and their terminal boasts excellent public conveniences, including a snack bar which is open 24 hours weekdays, a convenience store, a number of vending machines and a comfortable reception lounge.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company provides covers the Belfast to Douglas route three times per week during the summer months, and the duration is about 2 hours, 45 minutes. Douglas Port is the sole ferry port linking the Isle of Man with the Irish mainland and the British Isles. The port is conveniently positioned in the centre of the town, on the waterfront.
