Ferry companies from Belfast

The three main ferry companies which operate from the port of Belfast are Stena Line, with sailings to Stranraer; Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries with crossings to Liverpool; and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company with the route between Belfast and the Isle of Man.

Stena Line Ferry Company

Stena Line's fleet consists of about 34 vessels, which makes it one of the largest ferry companies in the world. Every year, more than three million passengers use the company's ferry services on the Irish Sea. In the UK and Scandinavia, the ferry operator serves 18 routes.

From Belfast port, there are 10 vessels departing daily to Stranraer in the south of Scotland. Stena Line is the sole company serving the Belfast-Stranraer route. It takes the ferry about 1 hour, 45 minutes to arrive in Stranraer from Belfast.

Ferries serving the routes to Stranrear are the Stena Caledonia and the Stena Voyager. The Stena Voyager can accommodate 1,500 passengers and has room for 360 cars; while the Stena Caledonia has a passenger capacity of 1,000 and can carry 280 vehicles. Both of the ferries have sufficient and convenient onboard amenities.

Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries (formerly known as Norse Merchant Ferries)

Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries offers weekly crossings between Belfast and Liverpool (Birkenhead). The company operates an advanced, safe, reliable and modern fleet.

Every week, five daytime sailings depart from Belfast port to Liverpool; while there are also 10 overnight crossings weekly. The journey to Liverpool on board one of Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries' vessels lasts about eight hours.

Crafts that are currently in service include the Lagan Viking, the Mersey Viking and the Liverpool Viking. The Liverpool Viking has room for 340 passengers and was constructed in 1997; while both the Lagan Viking and Mersey Viking were delivered in 2005 and can transport 970 passengers. All vessels provide new and improved onboard facilities including a shop selling gift items, papers, magazines and confectionary. The restaurant serves a selection of freshly cooked meals, and children won't get bored as there is a children's play area and a cinema showing the latest releases.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company

During the summer months, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company offers two voyages weekly to Douglas on the Isle of Man. The duration of the journey to the Isle of Man is approximately 2 hours, 45 minutes.

The route between Belfast and the Isle of Man is served by the SuperSeaCat II, which can carry 690 passengers and has room for 175 vehicles. The ship can reach a maximum speed of 40 knots and was designed according to the highest onboard safety and comfort standards.

The company is the world's oldest continuously serving passenger shipping operator. For many years, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has been operating cargo, passenger and car sailings between the port of Douglas and four other ports in Great Britain and Ireland.
