Ferry routes from Aberdeen
Northlink is the sole ferry company operating from the port of Aberdeen. The routes offered by the company include a daily voyage to Lerwick on the Shetland Islands and almost daily sailings to Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. Stromness on the Orkney Islands can be reached by bus departing from Kirkwall.
Aberdeen to Kirkwall ferries
There are three weekly crossings between the port of Aberdeen and Kirkwall. It takes about six hours for the ferry to reach Kirkwall from Aberdeen. The Hatston ferry terminal in Kirkwall is situated just three miles from the town's centre. The distance between Kirkwall and Stromness is 16 miles; while distances to St Margaret's Hope and Finstown are 15 and 7 miles, respectively. Long duration car parking is available at the port's parking lot, positioned just a short walk from the Hatston ferry terminal.
Aberdeen to Lerwick ferries
Daily ferries depart the port of Aberdeen to Lerwick. The service, operated by Northlink, has a sailing duration of 12 hours. Lerwick is the capital of the Shetlands, and the large and vibrant port is conveniently located just one mile from the centre of town. Lerwick is the most northerly town in the UK. A charming mix of old and new, it offers visitors plenty of things to do and see.
On both routes, three ships are offered which include spacious lounges and convenient cabins. Each ship has a pub providing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, shops and a self-service restaurant. The latest movies can be seen in a modern cinema on board vessels sailing a longer route.
