A five star holiday is not what it seemed

A British couple who spent £1,000 on an all inclusive holiday relive their hell.

Mike and Elaine Newton booked what they thought was a bargain holiday in Turkey for only a £1,000 and it was an all inclusive five star hotel.

Things went wrong when they arrived and the tour operator explained to them that it was actually a five ‘suns’ hotel which in the UK equates to a three star hotel. “I don't think it was even a three star,” said Elaine from Mead Way. “It was very, very basic and run down, she added.

The Newton’s also found out on arrival that they would have to pay £25 per week for the air-conditioning in their room and the free bar shuts at 23:00. English breakfast was also charged as an extra.

“I love Turkey, especially Icmeler, where we stayed, but the accommodation spoiled it. It was so bad that we had to eat out most of the time as we couldn't stay in the hotel to eat,” Mrs Newton said. “The telephones didn't work in the room, and when we found we had no plug for our sink we were advised to use a lemon,” Mike added.

The break was booked through Goldtrail Holidays who promised to look into all the issues raised. “We can, however, confirm that our website description for this hotel clearly states that the air conditioning is payable locally and that locally produced soft and alcoholic drinks are included from 10am to 11pm,” said a company spokesperson.
