Two more airlines cut Jersey flights

Bmibaby and easyJet will discontinue services linking Jersey with the UK mainland at the start of the winter schedule.

Bmibaby said that the service cuts were essential because of the high cost of fuel and the low passenger demand on the flights. Many of its customers aren’t pleased with the carrier’s decision, however.

A Jersey resident, Kathy Blampied, commented to The Jersey Evening Post that her daughter had a booking on one of the flights that was to be cut, and the airline didn’t contact her about it being cancelled.

EasyJet will be cutting five flights from its winter schedule, an airline official told The Jersey Evening Post. This action is being taken after easyJet assured local residents that service would not be affected.

Services impacted by easyJet’s actions are those connecting Jersey with Liverpool and Luton. Rival low-cost carrier bmibaby will cut all flights connecting Jersey with Birmingham until the spring of next year.

An easyJet spokesperson said that the Luton connection will be reduced to five weekly flights and Liverpool to four.

Bmi announced recently that from 26 October, early morning service from Jersey to Heathrow would be cut, again blaming the high cost of fuel and decreased passenger demand.
