Some areas in both Ireland and England remained flooded on Saturday after the heavy rains of the past several days.

The Kylemore road in Dublin was closed to traffic at Labre Park, due to the heavy flooding. Outside Blessington, between Manor Kilbride and Sallygap, flooding led to the collapse of the Ballysmutton Bridge. In Louth, the road from Ardee to Drumconrath, known in the area as the Bog road, finally reopened after the flood waters receded.

The continuing rains and stormy conditions also had an impact on ferry sailings.

All sailings on the Dublin-Holyhead route operated by Irish Ferries were cancelled on Saturday. In additional all Stena line sailings on the Dun Laoghaire-Holyhead route were cancelled as well.

Five deaths were reported over the weekend, due to storms that hit the UK.

Police reports indicated that the five people died in treacherous conditions, and that further severe weather was expected to continue today.

The fatalities included a 17-year-old girl who was on holiday in Wales, a motorcyclist in North Yorkshire, a 27-year-old man at a building site in Stroud and a young couple from Plymouth who were involved in a car crash.
