Hoverspeed Ferries
This world famous operator was established in 1981 when it merged two Cross-Channel operators - Seaspeed and Hoverlloyd. It initialy operated hovercrafts from Dover to Boulogne and Calais.
It has since been bought by Sea Containers Ltd and pioneered the vehicle carrying catamaran The Seacat.
Today it operates a fast sea crossing from Dover to Calais with over 360.000 vehicles with 1.2 million passengers making the trip each year, crossing the channel in under one hour.
Hoverspeed operates a fleet of high-speed catamarans including two 81m Seacat catamarans which will be sailing on the Dover - Calais route from early 2005. It's smaller vessels mean that the unloading and reloading procedure times are much faster. The nine daily departures will take under one hour during the peak season.
