Port of Liverpool services
The River Mersey's two banks are used by the large Liverpool port, which is one of England's principal ports. A significant factor making the port important and popular is its geographic situation. It is the second most vital cargo vicinity in Great Britain and has outstanding links by rail and road.
On the Liverpool side of the Mersey River you can find the Passenger Ferry Terminals. Facilities at the terminals aren't extensive but do provide essential services like snacks, hot and cold beverages and snacks vending machines.
The recently built construction of the £30 million extremely modern Twelve Quays River Terminal at Birkenhead features a lounge with cafeteria, check-in area, covered check-in sections for both cars and cargo vehicles, and a separate shower amenities for truck drivers. Pick-up and drop off places for taxis and buses are positioned outside the terminal. Both freight and passengers travel across a multi-lane linked bridge to the floating stages, where two crafts can berth simultaneously providing fast and efficient boarding.
P&O Irish Sea Ferries offers twice daily crossings to Dublin. Sailing time is approximately eight hours and the vessels transport both passengers and cargo. Super Seacat Fast Ferries operates two ferry services per day to Ireland, although this does depend on the weather conditions and the number of travellers. The duration of the trip is about 3 hours, 45 minutes.
Five daily crossings to Douglas on the Isle of Man are operated during high season by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. It takes the ferry about 2 hours, 30 minutes to reach Douglas from Liverpool. Norfolk Irish Sea Ferries offers two daily services to Belfast, Northern Ireland, with a sailing time of about 8 hours. They also operate two sailings per day to Dublin. Duration of this voyage is approximately 7 hours.
