Ferry companies from Chania

There are two ferry companies operating regular crossings between the Port of Chania and the Port of Piraeus. The Greek companies, ANEK Lines and Hellenic Seaways both provide this service.

Hellenic Seaways

Hellenic Seaways operates a daily high-speed crossing between the Port of Chania and the Port of Piraeus, with the duration of the voyage taking about 4 hours, 30 minutes. This route is available throughout the year, although sailings might be cancelled or delayed due to bad weather conditions during the winter months.

The largest marine fleet in Greece is operated by Hellenic Seaways, with 34 ships in operation, of which 16 are conventional crafts and 18 are fast catamarans. The Chania to Piraeus route is sailed by one of the company's extreme fast catamarans that can accommodate up to 1,000 people and almost 200 cars. These high-speed crafts can reach a maximum cruising speed of around 33 knots and come equipped with basic shopping facilities, relaxed seats, and a snack-bar.

ANEK Lines

ANEK Lines operates an overnight ferry crossing between the port of Piraeus and Chania throughout the year; however, sailings might be cancelled by bad weather conditions during the winter. Crossings are normally operational daily, with a sailing time of about 9 hours.

The ANEK Lines fleet consists of 10 ferries and a few of them are used on this service, all of which offer a relaxing overnight journey. The Lefka Ori is capable of accommodating 1,500 passengers and 1,100 cars and provides a good choice of restaurants, comfortable cabins, a swimming pool, and entertainment areas.

The Lato, which can carry 1,800 passengers and has space for 850 vehicles, also operates on this route and it features the same standard of comfort as its sister vessel.
