Belfast Port Information

The port of Belfast deals with two-thirds of Northern Ireland's seaborne trade and a quarter per cent of trade for the whole of Ireland. It is the chief nautical gateway for Ireland. Annually, the port receives two million passengers, about 450,000 passenger cars and 340,000 trucks. Almost 20,000 ships pass through the harbour each year.

There aren't many facilities at the port, although in the departure section of the terminal, soft drinks and snacks are available and there is an ATM in the departures lounge. Candy and snacks are provided by vending machines which are positioned in the arrivals section. In the motorist terminal, adjacent to the car lanes, vending machines are available as well. Disabled travellers will find designated amenities at the terminal, with specially designed toilets available. All sections of the port can easily be accessed by wheelchair.

The port of Belfast is the busiest passenger port in Northern Ireland, handling up to two million passengers annually. The port offers 16 daily passenger and vehicle ferry sailings. Destinations include: Liverpool, Stranraer in Scotland, and the Isle of Man. Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries operates the Belfast-Liverpool route; Stena Line operates the crossings between Belfast and Stranraer; while Isle of Man Steam Packet Company makes the trip to Douglas. Cargo ferry services include destinations in The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, as well as Great Britain.

Belfast port is situated close to the city's centre. Once Belfast had the reputation as being dangerous but nowadays the city is a vibrant and hip capital. There are numerous interesting attractions such as pleasant gardens and parks, and top quality museums which can easily be visited during a city sightseeing tour. Many summer festivals and Northern Ireland's best nightlife can be enjoyed in Belfast as well.
