Stena Line has announced the launch of one of the world’s two biggest superferries.
Stena Line has officially announced that it will launch Britannica, one of the two biggest superferries in the world, this October. The Britannica will join its sister ship, the Stena Hollandica, on the ferry operator’s North Sea route to the Netherlands. Together, the ships will provide the most advanced ferry fleet anywhere in the world.
Stena has invested a total of 375 million pounds in the two vessels. The Hollandica went into service in May. With the Britannica, the two ferries will sail the route from Harwich to the Hook of Holland. Daily day and overnight services will be available in both directions. Each ferry offers 538 cabins. Each cabin comes with a Dux bed, the same Swedish brand of luxury bed used at Dubai’s Burj Al Arab hotel. Modern en-suite bathrooms feature Hansgrohe fittings.
The cabins employ bigger windows to give both more light and an improved feel of spaciousness. Captain’s Class cabins come with a complimentary bottle of Piper-Heidsieck champagne. Throughout the ferries, there is free wireless internet access, mobile-phone reception for the length of the trip, and satellite TV in both cabins and lounges. The superferries also feature buffet and a la carte restaurants, bars, lounges and cinemas.
Both ferries employ many of the latest materials, systems and technologies to improve energy conservation, reduced pollution and waste recycling. Each vessel can carry 230 cars, 300 freight vehicles and 1,200 passengers. In terms of their combined freight and passenger capacity, these are the biggest vessels of their type in the world.
