Low carbon restaurant to complement green hospitality

It appears that Whitbread (UK’s leading hotel and restaurant group) has nowfinalised details for its groundbreaking plan for a second green hotel and its first low carbon restaurant. These contemporary projects have been confirmed to open shortly in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.

The Burgess Hill premier will symbolize the most recent forays into environment friendly budget hospitality. this latest venture comes hot on the heels of Whitbread’s pioneering green hotel in Tamworth, Straffordshire. This was UK’s foremost green budget hotel which was open to public in December 2008.

The hotel is scheduled to open in autumn this year, and will implement the best-performing green technologies assessed in Tamworth to deliver 70 per cent carbon and 60 per cent water saving.

Adjacent to this 60-room hotel will be Whitbread’s initial attempt to build a low carbon, 220 beefeater grill restaurant.

The new investment is part of Whitbred’s sustainability programme called ‘Good Together’. This was launched in December 2009, along with an oath to reduce carbon emissions by 26 percent in 2020. A ground-source heat pump and rain water harvesting are two of the many features that will be included in this hotel.

They will also feature high efficiency thermal insulation and low flow shower heads that give the feel of a powerful shower without the related water loss. The room will also have a heat recovery shower system that captures and reuses energy used by the boilers.
