Recession leads conscientous motoring practices
The recession for once has brought a very positive outcome, a change of attitude in motorists. Based on a survey released by Europcar, a significant change in driving habits was noted this year.
British drivers are now concerned about the state of their vehicles. The cost of extended driving and long traveling times has forced drivers to consider an alternative. Reliability and peace of mind were the top requirements for the oncoming festive season. This has prompted many customers to consider hiring a car. Around 73 percent of the people interviewed have replied in the affirmative as they wanted to minimize maintenance costs.
A whopping 85 percent of the candidates have affirmed that they have changed their driving habits as a direct result of recession time costs. Around 68 percent have already used a hired car for extended trips across the UK and they intend to do it again in the coming year. Forty-two percent do not use their car during the week at all. They prefer to keep them in their garages or driveways and on the weekends take it out for a brief spin. This figure is all set to rise to a whopping fifty percent in 2010.
The change in driving habits demonstrates the rise in savvy motorist behavior. Motorists are now choosing to exclusively care for their vehicles and intend to keep them in pristine condition. Resale prices will also benefit if motorist use hired cars to save on maintenance costs and keep the recorded mileage low.
