UK holiday destinations swarming with Britons

Holiday hotspots around Britain are reporting a sharp bookings as families choose to take domestic breaks.
This is turning into a major frustration for UK holidaymakers who have tightened their belts and realigned their expectations this year to take their holiday in Cornwall rather than the Caribbean find that their domestic destination is booked out.
Other areas where holidaymakers are also finding it difficult to make bookings include, the Lake District, Pembrokeshire, the Yorkshire Dales and the Norfolk Broads. In fact, most all of the favoured British summer holiday destinations are reporting significantly higher bookings this year, as cash-strapped Britons take their holidays closer to home.
Derek Phillips, who is the chairman of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are getting a lot more inquiries than we have ever had before,” adding: “And it is mainly domestic holidays.” Holiday operators in some parts of the region are reportedly struggling to keep up with the demand this summer.
One would-be holidaymaker, after spending hours searching online for last-minute options until late at night, said: “I've given up on Devon. There just isn't anywhere that the kids would like. Do you know if Shropshire is OK?”
