LD Lines announces the fastest ever ferry to sail across the channel
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the new high speed Incat 112 meter Wave-Piercing Catamaran! Dover residents can now witness this super fast ferry zipping across the channel on its route from Dover to Boulogne each day.
The new ferry was launched by LD Lines late last month and is already proving a success, easily beating all its competitors to the finish line as it takes just one hour to cross the channel.
This is the first ever freight carrying high speed vessel to operate across the Dover Straits and at 11,000 gross tones is also the world's largest diesel-powered catamaran.
The new ferry service is already in high demand, and is running up to four return sailings daily between Dover (Eastern Docks) and Boulogne. There are also two return sailings each day to Boulogne and one to Dieppe, so passengers have plenty of choice.
Although the new ferry is mainly set to carry freight at the moment, it is also able to carry cars, motor homes and even foot passengers, taking passengers from England to France quicker than you can blink.
In recent years many ferry services lost passengers to the Eurotunnel, but it is thought that the new fast ferry might be set to win back customers with its rapid and smooth service.
