The small luxury ships will expand the cruise line’s presence in Asia and Australia.

Pamela Conover, the president and CEO of Seabourn parent Carnival Corporation, has commented that although Yachts of Seabourn is still a relatively small cruise operator it is about to undergo a significant US$900 million expansion program that will see the addition of three new ships.

The first of the new cruise ships, Seabourn Odyssey, will be launched in June from Venice, and sail on an itinerary that includes Australian ports in February of 2010. Seabourn Sojourn will be launched in 2010, and the third new ship has not yet been named.

Conover noted that at 32,000 tons each, the new ships will be three times the size of vessels in the current Seabourn fleet. “We’re trebling the size of the ships but only doubling the number of passengers to 450. This will allow us to include many more facilities onboard,” she noted.

All three new cruise ships will feature Verandah Suites, having balconies of 65 square feet, Penthouse Suites that have even larger balconies - and spa villas that can be rented for half-day use.

In 2010, world voyages on Seabourn Odyssey will stop at ports in Australia and New Zealand, as will Seabourn Sojourn voyages in 2011.
