Linda Fabiani, the Scottish Culture Minister, is promising that St Andrew's Day this year will "pack a particular punch.
The minister said that the Scottish Government was looking to everyone to "do more" in way of celebrating on 30 November, and then on up through Homecoming Scotland 2009, which will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.
West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh will host the St Andrew's Day Do, where free entertainment and activities will be on offer for teens, adults and families throughout the weekend of 29-30 November.
The St Andrew's Day weekend is also the beginning of the Winter Festival events in Edinburgh, providing a sense of what’s in store over Hogmanay, Burns Night and Homecoming Scotland 2009.
Fabiani commented: "St Andrew's Day is an opportunity for everyone at home, and our friends around the world, to celebrate Scotland from our rich heritage to our vibrant modern culture.
She added: "This year there is a great programme of events from our St Andrew's Do in Edinburgh to the various ceilidhs and street parties taking place all around the country. I encourage all Scots everywhere and anyone with a connection to Scotland to do more this year, celebrate our national day and enjoy the inimitable culture of Scotland old and new."
