Ferry services from Dover to Boulogne and Calais have been cancelled for 24 hours.

The ferry service cancellations are the result of a planned labour action by French port control officers.

During the 24-hour period of the walkout, no ferries will be permitted to berth at the Boulogne or Calais ports.

P&O and SeaFrance have announced that they are cancelling services for the duration of the strike, and traffic police are warning motorist to expect lengthy delays.

Kent Police asked motorists to either stay away from the M20 or to stay at home if their trip isn’t essential - or possibly to consider an alternate means of transport – during the strike.

There are some ferry services that will continue operating on their normal schedules during the 24-hour period, however. The fast-craft ferry services from Dover to Boulogne on SpeedFerries, sailings operated by NorfolkLine from Dover to Dunkerque and ferry service from Ramsgate will all operate as scheduled.

Eurostar high-speed rail services through the Channel tunnel will not be affected by the strike, but due to the damage caused by the tunnel fire last month, services are still operating with delays and on limited schedules.
