Despite rising fuel costs, Irish Ferries will offer a £59 one-way fare to Ireland for the autumn and winter.

The low fare includes both car and driver, and the company’s guarantee is that there are no hidden extra charges, as the advertised fare includes fuel surcharges and taxes.

Travellers comparing the cost of flights and rental cars can appreciate the benefits derived from choosing the ferry to Ireland as an option – particularly now that flights have so many additional fees and charges added, for baggage and fuel, for example.

Declan Mescall, the head of passenger sales for Irish Ferries said: “We’ve taken the decision to absorb the extra fuel costs so that we can continue to be ‘the low fares ferry company.”

He added: “And we’ll also continue to bang the drum about the other benefits of self-drive travel by ferry, leisurely check-in times of just 30 minutes, no baggage restrictions or charges and space to relax, stretch the legs and enjoy the experience of Europe’s most modern ferries.”

The £59 discounted fare is available on the service from Pembroke to Rosslare, subject to a 28-day advance booking, for travel between 1 October and 20 December of this year. For the period leading up to the end of September, the fare is £89. For customers wanting to travel on the Holyhead to Dublin service, a small supplement applies.
