The Scottish Government is being urged to take definitive action on finding a replacement ferry operator on its only ser

Transport chiefs in Scotland are increasingly concerned that a deal with a new operator won’t be finalised on the twice-weekly passenger service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge before current operations end in September.

Forth Ports, the Rosyth operator, and the Scottish government are involved in talks with potential replacement ferry operators on the route currently run by Superfast Ferries. One of operators under consideration is Shetland-based John White, who has indicated that his group is eager to take on the route, and also to add a once-weekly sailing to Bergen, in Norway.

White has reported, however, that he has been frustrated with the lack of urgency he’s experiencing with those responsible for choosing a replacement operator.

The option that White has on the ferries his group would lease for the route’s operations is scheduled to run out next week, it has been reported.

White was recently granted permission to operate a freight-only service on the Norway, Zeebrugge and Rosyth route beginning the latter part of this year. He has indicated that he could have the passenger service ready by September when the Superfast service is discontinued, but only if he is given the go-ahead quickly.
