Seagoing travelers between Norway and England will need to change plans when Danish ferry company DFDS Seaways drops the

The company has claimed it tried to entice more passengers with a new vessel and by re-working the services offered on board. Its actions didn’t boost profitability however.

DFDS will drop the route on 1 September. Officials have said that they have "relatively few" booking past that date.

Any passenger who had made reservations will be entitled to a new offer or a refund of the ticket price, reported Gert Jakobsen, DFDS chief of information.

"Now we've announced this well in advance," he said, and added that the company would make contact with those who had made arrangements to travel after 1 September. The Queen of Scandinavia will continue servicing the route through the end of August.

One British passenger expressed her frustration with the discontinuation in service. She travels frequently to Norway and now will be unable to bring her car to the country on holiday unless she takes "very circuitous" route that passes through Denmark. She called shutting down this "historic" link between England and Norway as "diabolical."

Other passengers have also complained about the end of the DFDS service, which made stops at Gothenburg, Sweden and Newcastle as well.
