IOM Ferry uses new software to optimise crossings
Ferry Online Travel News 22/05/2008
Amadeus software will be used to improve service on crossing from Isle of Man
For the first time in history, a British ferry company will be using new Amadeus software in order to maximize profits. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company will be using the Amadeus Revenue Management System (RMS) for Ferries.
The RMS helps ferry operators analyze historical trends in order to forecast future reservations and achieve the maximal profit on each crossing.
The system can manage many departures and many routes and provides information to operators on seasonal trends and customer’s booking behaviours. The information provided by the system can be used in order to optimize selling strategy and onboard revenue. The system is even self-monitoring in that it can calculate revenue generated from its recommendations being used by the company.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the oldest continually operating passenger shipping company in the world and the first ferry company in the UK to use the Amadeus system.
The Yield Analyst of the Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company, Darren Crawford, said: “The main benefit of the system is its ability to offer more accurate solutions in a time frame that could not be achieved using manual methods. Statistical information can be viewed with ease and in varying formats; and the product is extremely user friendly. The Steam Packet Company has found Amadeus’ technical support to be innovative, flexible, thorough and friendly.”
The head of RMS, Amadeus Hospitality Business Group, Bernard Rannou, said: “We believe the Amadeus RMS for ferries enables operators to optimise their sailings and sales. The Amadeus solution enables ferry operators to stay ahead of the game by better anticipating future demand and optimising all available revenue opportunities.”
