A new ferry makes travel to Samos easy

Greece has its eyes set on increasing tourist numbers and is offering visitors from the UK the opportunity to either fly directly to the island of Samos, or drive there, thanks to improved ferry service.

Samos is one of the Aegean Islands and is now directly connected by ferry from Bodrum on mainland Turkey. The new link, in addition to direct flights from the UK are part of the Greek government’s plan to increase tourism by 50 per cent by 2013.

Experts in the overseas property market have welcomed the increased transportation links. Barasford and Bird Worldwide is a firm specializing in foreign property acquisitions. Managing director, Robin Barrasford, said the new ferry and air link made investing in Samos more interesting.

"The new ferry link from Bodrum will be a substantial boost to Samos's tourism market. Couple this with direct flights from the UK [and] Samos will undoubtedly see a huge increase in tourism and revenue from tourism in the coming years, making now an opportune time to purchase a property on the island."

Greece is estimating that 50,000 tourists a year will visit Samos by 2009. The first ferry to the island is due to depart in the first week of May, making this year the best time to take advantage of the still relatively undiscovered island known for its lush beaches and secluded coves.
