New ferry for Northern Scotland

New ferry first of its kind in Scotland
A ferry route in Northern Scotland is getting ready to receive a new passenger ferry from FBMA Marine Inc, in Balamban, Cebu. UK-based Pentland Ferries is expecting the delivery of the 70-meter car and passenger ferry in a few weeks.
The catamaran-type vessel has steel hulls and is being called the Pentalina. According to marketing manager for FBMA, Craig Patrick, the ship “is designed for the rough waters and large waves in the northern part of Scotland.”
Patrick said that the Pentalina will be delivered within the next six or seven weeks and must first sail for 28 to 34 days from the Philippines.
The investment into the ship cost between $10 and $15 million, according to Patrick, and is up to all the current regulations set out by authorities in the UK. A total of 250 workers contributed to the construction of the vessel, including welders, electricians and pipe-fitters.
The new ferry is scheduled to replace an older car ferry currently operating in northern Scotland. Capable of carrying up to 350 passengers, nine trucks, 58 cars, the Pentalina has an aluminium superstructure.
Pentland Ferries owner, Andrew Banks, attended the launch of the Pentalina last week and declared the ferry “first of its kind in Scotland.”
