SeaFrance has acquired a larger, faster ferry

SeaFrance is continuing its six-year program to renew its fleet of ferries, with the acquisition of a newly named boat which will ply the waters between Britain and France.

SeaFrance Molière, the newest ferry to join the SeaFrance fleet, has a car deck capable of transporting 660 cars or 110 trucks in addition to up to 1,200 passengers. The vessel has double decks and offers faster loading and embarkation. SeaFrance purchased the ferry from SNCM, a French company.

The SeaFrance Molière will begin operations this summer, replacing the SeaFrance Manet and the SeaFrance Renoir on the route from Dover to Calais route.

The fleet renewal program first started in 2002 when SeaFrance Rodin and SeaFrance Berlioz joined the SeaFrance group.

According to the company, the larger vessel will allow the company to offer more environmentally friendly services.

Managing director Robin Wilkins said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our third new generation ferry, the SeaFrance Molière, to our fleet and believe that she will be greatly appreciated by our customers, being of similar size and quality to the SeaFrance Berlioz and the SeaFrance Rodin.”
