Big delays in UK this Easter weekend
Ferry Online Travel News 27/03/2008
Weather, works cause Easter frustration
Every year, every form of transportation in the United Kingdom sees a surge on the Easter long weekend, as thousands upon thousands of Britons travel to visit their families all over the islands. Motorways are clogged, trains are jammed and ferries leave heavier wakes than usual-planes are overbooked.
This year it is not only the high density of travellers that will cause travel delays on Easter weekend. A prolonged winter that has held fast in the UK will likely cause interruptions to rail, road, air and ferry routes due to high winds and snowfall. Aside from the weather worries, the service work that has been going on with both the East and West Coast Mainline rail services ware expected to slow things up. There are over 6,000 workers employed on over 30 rail construction projects throughout the country.
The wind on the coast has been nagging the ferries at Dover, and many of the ferry routes have experienced delays that have caused passengers major inconveniences. This weekend, Dover authorities said that there was a queue at the Eastern dock three miles long.
