Many ferries delayed by weather

The Northlink ferry schedule has released revised schedules for routes between Aberdeen and the Shetland Islands, with one deletion of service to Kirkwall, Orkney. The ferry the MV Hrossey will sail from Aberdeen bound for Lerwick at 19:00, with the MV Hjaltland making the return route at 17:30. The Friday passage to Kirkwall has been cancelled due to stormy conditions, and passengers are asked to make alternative arrangements. The Northlink freight ships Clare and Hascosay have also not been allowed to sail due to adverse weather conditions and remain in Lerwick, with expected departures being pushed back into Sunday morning.

Businesses in Shetland can expect their goods to arrive with considerable delay, but the freighters will be operational again as soon as it is safe to do so. Bill Davidson, Chief Executive for Northlink has said, "I apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused and encourage travellers to check our web-site for up to date information".
