Confusing luggage rules made easy on ferry
Ferry Online Travel News 13/01/2008
Irish ferries makes travelling easy
With some United Kingdom airlines lifting the restriction on carrying only one carry-on bag into the cabin, passengers have found a discrepancy on some of their return flights, where the one bag minimum rule is still in place. Some airlines still even gouge the customer to the tune of 20 quid for the simple privilege of bringing a bag into the cabin with them.
This coupled with long queues, elaborate security checks and the very real chance of a delay makes flying more of a burden than a boon. But if your destination is reachable by ferry, these hassles are not part of the process. Declan Mescall, head of passenger sales for Irish Ferries explains:
"Certain airlines are charging up to £20 just to check luggage into the hold - some even charge to use the check-in desk - as well as additional costs for fast-boarding services.
"Compare this with the ease of travelling by ferry. With Irish Ferries there are no hidden extras; once the ticket is purchased there's no charge for baggage handling and holidaymakers can bring as much luggage as the car can hold.
"With air fuel surcharges, long check-in times (our ferry check-in time is just 30 minutes), plus the cost of airport parking and car hire, surely travelling by air just doesn’t stack up where there are viable options for travelling on modern, comfortable ferries."
